Your Puppys First Day
Today is the day...you go to pick up your puppy! The morning is best for the puppy because he has the whole day to get used to you and will probably sleep better that night. Allow plenty of time for your to talk to your breeder and make certain you completely understand what to do. This is a big event not only for you, but for your puppy too.
You may need to have your vet check your puppy for health problems and inocculations. This gives you a chance to make sure of his health and return the puppy if he has a congenital problem. Your breeder can tell you what, if any, shots or medications your puppy has had. Your vet will need to know this. Most breeders allow you to return the puppy for congenital problems but not for problems such as worms, or diarrhea. You may need to make an appointment ahead of time with your vet if you know which day you will be getting your puppy. While at the vet's office, hold your new puppy, do not put him on the floor as sick dogs may have contaminated the area. Control what he is subjected to.
When you get home, give the puppy time and room to get used to his new home before meeting all the family. Do not over handle a young puppy. Little children can be especially rough at times.
Remember, take it slow and be patient with the little fellow. It will pay off many times over.
